Elijah Cross, Jr. was born about 1791. His parents were Elijah Cross and Nancy Lane Looney.

His first wife was Catharine Cook.

Their children probably included:

William King Cross
(1814, married Loozenia Gross),
Elizabeth Cross ((1819, married Obediah Wright),
David H. Cross (1826, married Julia A. Hart),

Jacob Cross,
Elijah Cross,
Rebecca Cross (married William Barnes),
Kate Cross (John Roller)

After the death of his first wife, Elijah Cross married Mary (Polly) Malone.

Their children probaby included:

James Cross,
Samuel Looney Cross (1849, married Sarah Catherine Webb),
Andrew Cross, and
Franklin P. Cross (1853)

Elijah Cross was with Captain King's Company in 1814.

After Elijah died in 1855, Polly married a man named Hicks and they had one son, named Henry Hicks. He was of low stature and some of the boys called him, "Duck Legs."

East Tennessee is part of Appalachia. At the end of the French and Indian War, colonists began drifting into the area. In 1769, they first settled along the Watauga River. During the Revolution, the Overmountain Men defeated British loyalists at the Battle of Kings Mountain. The State of Franklin was formed in the 1780s, but never admitted to the Union.

Elijah Cross II married Catharine Cook, who I think, lived in Cook's Valley, Tennessee. (This valley is between Blountville and Kingsport from Blountville). I have heard my grandfather, Wm. K. Cross speak highly of his mother. He was proud of the fact that she was a "Cook".

To this marriage the following children were born: Jones Cross, Wm. K. Cross, ( my grandfather ), John Cross the father of J. C.. Cross, Mary Hicks, etc.), David Cross (he was called Bony Dave - (I knew him well), Jacob Cross (who left this section when young), Elijah Cross III (who was killed in a difficulty in Union, now Bluff City--have heard my mother talk about his being killed), Rebecca Cross, who married William Barnes, and Kate Cross, who married John Roller. She was the mother of Solomon, James, Noah, Adam, John and William Roller and of two or three daughters, Elizabeth Cross, who married ____Wright, and Jane Cross, who married____ Wright. I understand those Wrights went to Missouri years ago. I have never seen any of them or their posterity

After the death of his first wife Elijah Cross II married Polly Malone. The following children were born: James, Samuel or Sink as we called him, his real name was Sinclair I understand. Also, Andrew and Frank. James Cross married a Cox and they had five or six children. Some of them attended a school taught by me at Buffalo about forty-five years ago. Josie Cross married Bob Milhorn. Brainard Cross lives in Missouri or Oklahoma. Ed Cross lived in Kentucky. Walter Cross, who married Lola Crussell, is dead. Julia Cross married Ed Braham and now lives near Sanford, Tennessee. She has four children - -Walter, Kenneth,______ and Sylvia. This James Cross died about fifty or fifty-five years ago, near the mouth of Beaver Creek near where David Lindamood lived.
